I/O Card Replacement Question

Just got an S2000 with 9 line, ten button deck,  three reels,  display on the left.


Coin error on power-up,  buttons do nothing in menu setting mode.

Previous owner may have tried a few things, and I wanted to confirm the correct door IO cards.

Would appreciate some guidance.

Obviously,  will have to replace the busted out buttons

I have a similar machine with the same problem. When I power it up I get the coin in error. I’ve been looking at the wiring on the door and it looks like the wiring from the buttons, coin acceptor and the credits display all run to the I/o card closest to the belly glass. There’s no wires connecting that card to the machine itself and I believe that’s why mine isn’t working. Have a look and see if yours has the wire harness or not

Phan000 has a 2-row button deck.
It needs two I/O cards...they'll be mounted on the door panel.
One will be in front, while the other card is on the inside of the panel between the panel and the belly glass.
Offhand, I believe the i/o card numbers will be sequential, such as 801 and 802 with their pin connectors being different sizes as well.
One for the top row of buttons, while the other is for the bottom row of the button deck.
I not exactly sure on this, as I'm nowhere near an S2000 at the moment...going by memory.

On decks that have the two rows of buttons there are two door cards. The card that is at an angle inside the door controls the 5 standard buttons such as Spin and Cash Out, as well as the coin IN optics and comparitor. The card on the outside of the door in the vertical slot is for the 'extra' rows of buttons.

The one at a slant, is generally an '801' card, and the vertical one is an '802' card They cannot be reversed. There is no damage done by reversing them but they won't work.
Some cabinets have card sockets that are 'addressed', and you can use an '802' in both. Again, if the sockets are not addressed, it won't hurt anything to install two 802's, but it won't work.

The most important thing is to never remove or install a card with the power on. It will almost certainly cause damage to the cards, MPU, LED display, or backplane.

There are some cabinets that use 'enhanced' I/O cards. They have a plastic case instead of metal, and both door cards are always the same, as the sockets are always addressed.

Yeah...I found out the hard way one time... lol
Look at the pictures I took.
That off-yellow ceramic cap chip in the [C5] location blows up if the power switch is ON, and you try to remove/insert an I/O card.
No "hot-swapping" with these!

What plugs into the angled I/o card to make the buttons and coin comparator connect to the machine? I believe I’m missing a harness possibly

The regular buttons, button lights, and coin hardware are connected to the long connector on the angled card. The small connector on the handle side is just a SENET pass through. No buttons or other basic hardware connect to it. There are different ways these hook to each other. SENET is all in parallel and it doesn't matter what 'order' they are connected in. The only door SENET device without a pass through connector is the main LED display. It's always last in the chain. Seems like most setups start with the cable from the motherboard connecting to the display on the left side of the reel glass, and then go card to card and then to the bottom reel glass LED display. (Or the one on the right side of the reel glass if it has a short glass.)

It's even simpler on a 5 button panel as it only has one I/O card.

I seem to be missing something then. I’ve traced the harness back to the angled I/o card from the buttons but nothing connects that card to the rest of the machine. There’s a connector on the top but nothing to plug into it. This is the closest configuration that lets the machine get to the error if I change the plugs around it gets stuck at the netplex boot

Machine is missing the harness that runs from angled I/O card to black connector on the line indicator board. P/N: 600-40000

Ok,  back to my problem machine

According to Spin,  this machine does take two 802 I/O cards,  the same that were previously installed.

I replaced both,  problem persists.

Immediately goes to coin-in error.

I looked at the board,  super clean. No varta damage
Can’t test anything as the buttons do nothing in attendant mode. The mpu button goes to accounting & stays there.




Not sure what to try next.  Previous owner may have mangled the harness somewhere that I’m not seeing.  I don’t have a spare mpu to try just in case.

If you don't find any harness problems, and you have a 50X MPU, there is a very good chance it has an MPU fault. Varta corrosion doesn't affect SENET signals. If it has a 1270 MPU, it may have a backplane fault.   In any case, try another MPU if you haven't already.

I'm thinking it might be something more simple somewhat?
What if he has a wire on a button microswitch on a NC contact tab?
That would freeze up the logic signals?
Have you've SEEN these deck buttons working before on this cabinet?

I got another machine that has a 504 board.  Coin jam error followed the board to the new machine,  so I will get the board repaired & see if that resolves the issue.
