IGT weird S2000 cabinet harness
« on: May 11, 2026, 08:34:54 pm »
Around November I purchased a cabinet harness from somebody here. After I ordered it I had to stop working on the machine it was intended for due to, well, life happening.
Anyway, today I had some spare time and decided to open the box the harness came in. I label the plugs on the cabinet harnesses before I install them which helps me with installation.
While labeling them with the plug number, example J7, I noticed that J14, the printer connection is missing! I just happened to have the hooper plug pointed down and the light shined through the hopper plug holes. I thought to myself, " there is too many non fitted pins in this hopper plug." I checked my other machines and sure enough there are way more pins fitted. All of the other harnesses and machines fitted with harnesses have almost all pins fitted, maybe 1 or 2 missing. this harness that I received in November has 8 missing pins.

Has anybody ever seen an S2000 harness missing the printer connection, J14 that plugs into the motherboard and that has so many missing pins on the hopper connector?
Unfortunately this makes the harness unusable for me. The seller is a reputable seller, and good person who I have done a fair amount of business with so I'm sure he didn't know there were any issues with it. Its been too long since the purchase, so I'm not going to contact them. I don't feel it would be fair after so long. See pics below of what I am talking about.  Anybody ever gotten any IGT S2000 harnesses like this?

That looks like it might be a S+ harness for a Barcrest machine. If it is that plug is the connector for the the top box. Hope that helps.

I appreciate the info, but I don't see how it could be an S+ Barcrest as it has a connector for the S2000 cabinet i/o.
Every other part of the harness also align with an S2000 harness when comparing them side by side with the exception of the missing J14 printer plug and the missing pins in the hopper plug.

That 19-pin plug is supposed to be configured like this from the back...>>.

1.Orange/White stripe                                                                                                            15.Green/Blue stripe
2.Gray/Red stripe         6.Gray/Yellow stripe       9.Empty                      12.Green/Brown stripe   16.Double Red
3.Green Cabinet GND    7.Gray/Blue stripe        10.Empty                     13.Green/Red stripe       17.Black/Red stripe
4.Empty                       8.Gray/Brown stripe     11.Green/Black stripe    14.Green/White stripe    18.Orange
5.White/Orange stripe                                                                                                            19.Double Black/Orange stripe

I may be wrong but the printer harness is just a plain 10-pin Netplex harness tie-wrapped into the main loom?
But yeah, yours looks like they robbed some pins out of that plug.

@Stayouttadabunker   There are about 4 wires missing from the cabinet card connector too. Very weird. Interesting thing is that I looked for marks on the hopper connector that would imply a de-pinner or other tool was used to remove some pins, but the holes look so clean and they appear as if the pins were never installed in those spots.

@ggodar  No problem. I appreciate you taking a look and the effort at trying to help.

I wonder if it's a harness for a slant sit-down model you have?
The one I gave you the pin config looks complete...I'm not sure tho.
I didn't check anything else on it, or compare it to one in my upright cabinet, but I did compare it to another harness and they both have like 3 hole un-occupied.

If you can give me the missing holes...I could follow them on my harness - to see where the wires end up at.
Maybe measure them, and see if have some extra housings to complete yours?

Don’t know if you purchased it from me??, know you got some 16 MHz simm cards.
Did some research, that connector, J14, even though it is labeled printer, the connector that typically plugs into it has five wires in it that terminate at the printer plug. Those wires are not even shown on the schematics that I have!, further more, there are no wires on the hopper plug in those spaces. I unplugged that connector, and the hopper ran just fine. So I think your harness is useable.

J2,J3 and J14 are all in parallel, you have two printer connections, one over near the bill validator connections and one that enters the top box via the metal piece that contains the candle and audio connections. A connector from that piece connects to the power distribution board, it is here where the printer is connected.

Hope this helps

@Jim  Hi Jim.  I appreciate the research and info. It is very helpful.  So, you have the same missing contacts in your hopper plug and the hopper in your machine still works?
Another friend of mine also told me yesterday that I could either run a cable right from J14 to the printer or that I could connect it via the distribution board in the top box as you suggested.  The info you provided in regards to J2, J3 and J14 is especially helpful knowledge to have.

@Stayouttadabunker I will check and list the missing pin positions tomorrow when I have access to it again. I appreciate your help.

I play with the configurations of S2000's all the time here.
I've even re-worked the entire guts of an S2000 to fit into an S+ cabinet ( Because I couldn't get any S2k cabinets at the time ) , but I've never seen these hopper plugs ever missing wires...lol
That's why I find this Topic very interesting.
I'm wondering from what S2k cabinet your harness came from?

@Stayouttadabunker   I'm curious too. Not sure what machine it came out of other than it is definitely an S2000 upright!  Was it a special order by a casino? If so they would have ordered a batch of them that way.  The reason it matters so much is that I'm back to trying to figure out the issue with a machine that I have had to take a break from since November.
This machine has me at my wits end and I'm thinking it is either the machine from hell or that it is cursed.  I have replaced every part in it with known working parts used in other working machines and I have since validated that the electronic parts work in other machines that I have that are fully working.  I have replaced every harness in it now that has come from working machines. The one exception to this is the machine cabinet harness.  The reason that I said that I didn't think I could use it and that I was not going to use it is because I wasn't sure about the missing hopper pins and because of being unfamiliar with a cabinet harness in that configuration. I'm trying to eliminate as many variables as I can so that I can more easily rule out non issues. Power supply and distribution box also work in other machines and voltages check out on power supply too. I bought it refurbished. I have connected the plugs to the backplane the same way I have in other working cabinets.  I tried 3 different motherboards too. The 3 motherboards I had I bought from somebody 20 years ago and I don't think they tested them, so even though it is highly unlikely that all 3 are bad, I'm going to buy a few that are tested and guaranteed working so I can rule that part out for sure.    Found some for cheap so might as well. After the harness and motherboard are replaced all that is left is the metal, which is why I say t must be cursed!

On another note, I'm wondering if you could answer this question? On the arm mechanism there are 3 copper tabs, top, middle and bottom. I just connect to the top and bottom copper tabs and the middle one has nothing connected correct?

I do remember seeing you S2000 in an S+ cabinet. Interesting project. Lots of work, but very ingenious and some nice work to boot.

Looks to me like there are only 12 wires needed, if that. Did you try the harness?  Are you using a hopper?

What issue are you having with this machine?

Can’t be that difficult to solve?

@Stayouttadabunker  Just for reference, the hopper positions that don't have any pins fitted are:  4, 9-10 and 11-15.

Okay E,
I'll check out the missing 8 pins in your harness, when I get in Monday at work.
For now, see if you answer the other guys questions about your machine's functionality.
It sounds like you may not need the extra wiring should you not be using a hopper?
