Double Diamond mystery switch

I've recently acquired what I believe is an earlier model Double Diamond machine that needs a little TLC. I've fixed a few wiring issues and gotten it to accept coins and play, but I'm a little stumped by a switch I found mounted behind the door. It's spliced into an orange/violet wire, which I think is part of the coin comparitor circuit if I'm reading the diagram correctly. I've also noticed that the machine rejects coins when the switch is flipped. The mounting bracket for the switch looks to be well-made, like something from the factory rather than a hack job (like the LED strip I found in the back of the cabinet).

Any ideas about what the purpose of this switch could be?

Exactly what you said...it stops the machine rom accepting coins.
Why someone rigged it to that is anyone's guess.
My guess is that the machine was on a cruise ship, and once they sailed inside of 20 miles from land, they opened the doors and flipped the switches to stop play...but the lights all stayed ON - maybe for the casino atmosphere lighting? 
This may be one of the dumbest things I've ever written on NLG....hahahaha!

I'm not sure how you made the cruise ship connection, but I think you might be spot on.  I was shopping for replacement florescent tubes and realized this machine takes 14" tubes, slightly shorter than typical. I had also been wondering why the "payline" text on the reel glass looked so scrunched up.  It finally dawned on me that this machine is an intermediate size, which I read in another thread was often used on cruise ships.

Give me a few more days and I can post a picture.   I've got it partially disassembled at the moment trying to fix the reel light.

It was a quarter machine when I got it, Jim at Midwest Slots set me up with the stuff to convert it.  I figured while I was working on it, may as well convert it while I was in there.  I don't have enough halves to pay out the top jackpot, but enough to keep the hopper reasonably well filled.

I converted my Top Dollar back to taking dollar coins and have about 150 in it now. Check your local banks frequently. They occasionally show up. And they're only 50 cents each!
