WMS 550 RAM Errors

Hello, I just picked up a WMS 550 Money To Burn video slot machine that isn't working.   There are some memory errors displayed on the screen at boot up.  The first one says the RAM is corrupt and the second one shows a divide by zero error.   See the attached images.  I thought it could just need a clear but when I took out the mainboard I found that XU3 is stacked 3 chips high.  Is this normal?  Any advice on what to do about the errors would be appreciated.   Thanks in advance.

That is something I did. Funny thing is I don't ever remember getting rid of any of these boards. Basically I have a Clear Chip and two separate games mounted to the board.

Your' RAM errors are probably because you need to do a RAM clear, or the battery is dead or went dead.

Where are you located?

I believe the switch on the left with the green wires is the RAM clear chip and the switch on the right allows you to chose between the two different games.

The two square plugs on the  board are the memory chips off the backplane board. I had a wire harness from the backplane chip so that you could plug into either one of these for one of the two games on the board. This way you wouldn't have to clear the boards between games. You would just move the plug over and flip the switch.

I have more of these boards I made like this still.

I forgot to say that the Black and red wire plug was wired to 5 volts and ground to give the relays power to function.

I am located in West Bloomfield,  MI.  The board battery measures 3.6V so I assume the previous owner installed a new battery.  I hadn't looked at the main board so I already ordered a clear chip off ebay and was trying to use that in the top socket last night.  I didn't realize there was already a switchable clear chip.   .  The red and black wires with the connector was unplugged when I got the machine so it was unplugged the whole time I was trying to clear it.  Maybe I should try this evening with it connected.

See if there's a wire coming off the backplane with a plug that will fit into one of the two empty plugs glued to the board. If there is you'll need to plug it into one of those two connectors for a ram clear to work.

I checked inside the cabinet and don't see anything obvious where the black/red wiring will connect to.  I also don't see another plug that would plug into one of the 2 connectors you added to the mainboard.  Can you describe where these connections should go from this picture of the cabinet and backplane?   Perhaps the mainboard is from you but the cabinet is not?

This means as long as you have the small 8 leg chip on the backplane the game should work. Not having the extra connector to plug into the board only means you would have to clear the board to change from one game to another. The purpose for the two connectors on the boar was so that if you wanted to change games between the two installed you wouldn't have to clear the game first. At this point you should be able to turn the switch with the green wires on it and the game should boot to the clear options. Follow the clear procedure and setup your options for bill acceptor and coin comparator and then turn the machine off, switch the
clear" switch (green wires) off and then turn the game back on. You should then have the machine boot to one of the two games installed on the board.

If necessary, I could remove all of this stuff from the board, and you could set it back up to one single game like it was when it was in the casino. I only did this back in the day because I liked to change games frequently without taking chips in and out of the board. I still have several versions of these boards myself and one machine like this. 

Let me know if you're able to get the board cleared and then you should be able to lay either of the games installed on that board.

Thank you for your detailed help and explanation regarding the mainboard.   This evening I was able to get the clear chip selected and got it to work.  I was able to setup Money to Burn and play it.  I have not tried Leprechaun's Gold yet but I am assuming that will work if I change the game switch and do another RAM clear.
