IGT S+ Double Diamond a good buy?
« on: May 30, 2026, 02:18:45 pm »
I have an opportunity to get 2 IGT S+ Double Diamond machines for $1000.  Both working, but are old "Tournament Machines".  They play for 10 minutes then you have to reset.  Also comes with an IVC00224 and a SB100053 stepper.  I'm guessing I would also need a key chip.  Is this a good buy and will the SB100053 get it out of tournament mode?

I'm getting more familiar with the S2000's as I have 2 now.  Still waiting for photo of tag showing more info on these.

It's nearly a 3 hour drive one way for these......in the end I would probably keep one and sell the other assuming I can get them running normal.  (Out of tournament mode.)

UPDATE:  Model B5033CFIW and B5036CFIW, both mfg 5/95

Price is often subjective based on where you live.
I suspect that saying they are “Tournament “ is another way of saying they have no hopper or BV.
IMO, I wouldn’t pay that much if they lack hopper and BV, the price probably isn’t terrible but I don’t think you will make much money if you ever want to sell them.
If they do have hopper and BV the price is about right. Probably just need to set them up for gamble.

Hopefully someone will more expensive will jump in.

Where are you located?

Chris

Correct....no BV or TITO or Hopper.  When you reset them, there is a 10 minute countdown in the credits window.  Once 10 minutes is up, reset and play again.  I think that time can be changed, I'll look into it.  Also has another stepper that was included so will figure out maybe I'll totally convert them, haven't made up my mind.  Still fun to play.

They need some cosmetic work, but interestingly enough the cabinets are white and the trim is gold rather than chrome.  Only one of the belly glass has a small almost unnoticeable crack in the lower right corner.  When he turned them on and showed me how to reset and start a new game, only 2 maybe 3 spins it hit triple doubles!

I gave a little less for them, plus traded some other items to make us both happy.

Any S+ can be any theme - you just need the glass, reel strips and two chips (Game and Reel Chip).
The game chip is the OS and the Reel is the theme.  Often the same game chip is used with many themes.

The Tournament chips - can play regular or they can play tournament mode.
Playing regular you would need a hopper..... bill validators are a plus but not an escential.
Tournament mode can work in two ways - Timer or a set number of credits.
- You mentioned about hitting a big win. Tournament mode tends to be more generous on the wins. In a casino they might have 30 machines set up for tournaments and your competing against others. Typically on a big win you would go into a hand pay (machine locks up and you wait for the attendant) - this doesn't happen with tournament mode.

You can check out the IGT S+ Game Bible - see Ricks FAQs on the bottom right of the NLG home page and you can see all the options for each theme.
There are also instructions there on how to view the game and reel chip numbers. If you post these chip numbers we can supply you with the PSR and PAR sheets which is the detailed description of all of the options and settings.

If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Thanks for all that info Jay!  Ya almost every spin is a win.  These will be fun having neighbors over and having a little fun competition :)  I'll try and find those items you mentioned.  I took photos of all the chips, although some of them may not give much info.  The following is on each of the different chips on one of the boards:

SIEMENS
SAB-C501G-LP
SAB 80032

S-PLUS-ALL-IN-ONE
ST0002
IGT (8300)

S-PLUS GAME
SP446
(D06E) 512K

SOUND
AY38912/P
9610
MICREL

SCN2681AC1N28
225BE39
9601hH

As for the location question....I'm in OR

Thanks for all your insight.....learning something new every day :)

Thanks for posting the info - the only chips that matter are the Game and Reel Chip - everything else is the same across all S+ platforms.
Want to change games - you change these two chips.
Here is the link to the online game bible - found on our home page under Ricks FAQs /igtbible/

Drilling into the specfics I cannot find any documentaion on SP446 or any SP4... for that matter. I am not saying the info you provided is wrong but it is suspect in my mind.
Here is a thread that shows how to display the chip numbers vs reading the labels on the chips. /spset/SPSS.htm

Tournament mode requires a game chip that supports type 14  Double Diamond is a Type 0 game (when not in tournament mode).
The chip SP735 supports both a Type 0 and Type 14
I have attached the PSR sheet (Program Summary Report) which details how to change options, since this is not the same chip number the instructions may vary slightly from what you have in your machine.

According to the game bible ST0002 is the tournament equivelent to non-tournament SS3634 (screen shot).
I hae subsequently attached both the PAR sheet for both ST0002 and SS634

Here is a an older thread on tournament machines

Most of the time you only have to swap out the SS chip to change games, no keychip needed.  If you have to swap SP chips then you usually will have to use set15 to enable the BV. Good thing about machines that used to be in tournament mode is that they usually are in great shape, they were only used for short time per day.
