Converting V20/V20 from A1 to A2

I am currently wanting to convert my other Alpha v20/v20 to run on Alpha 2 so I can experiment with A2 Multilink. I have the backplane and a 2.1 CPU. On my other Alpha that runs on the same conversion it uses a 2.0 Board which has the headphone jack ports for sound. Here I am working with a 2.1 which does NOT have a headphone jack port and only a SPDIF port on the backplane.

In order to get sound, can I just use a headphone jack to SPDIF cable adapter and connect the headphone jack end of the to the adapter to the backplane? Or is it WAY more complicated than that? I don't have another spare 2.0 CPU to use.

When I did that to my 20/20 I  bought the A2 USB based amp board and connected the spdif from the backplane to it and rewired the speakers to work with it.
