S2000 with Bill Validator Comm Failure.
« on: August 05, 2026, 10:48:37 am »
(Read from another post regarding a BV comm error. The machine had TITO with $100 load service button.)

"$100 service button load?" Hmmm How makes that work? :Scratch-Head:

So, would my "BV Comm Error" most likely a problem within the BV, or is there a Gremlin in the Netplex somewhere?

If you're loading credits with the service button you have Tito installed. What kind of bill validator do you have. I think it's dying.

I Do have a TITO board in this machine, but "Service" just turns on the light.

BV is WBA-13-SS  If I open/close door enough times, it will clear and the BV works fine.  But leave it alone for awhile and it comes back.

Bonus Legacy needs to be enabled for free play option with the service button. Most likely need to clear it to enable the Bonus Legacy option. If you need to replace your WBA, NLG member Jim, Midwest Slots has replacements available.

I may be mistaken but I think only certain TITO versions and not all of the units had the option, to add credits with the Service button.
I remember being asked by Jim of Bettor Slots at the time, if I wanted that option or not.
Brian Hinkley of TITO@Home might have a better answer to this.

Whatever you do, do not clear the machine. You only need to key it to enable Bonus Legacy. It's in the 7.1 Key Chip Config menu. Clearing is seldom ever necessary.

So, would my "BV Comm Error" most likely a problem within the BV, or is there a Gremlin in the Netplex somewhere?

Others posted here and gave you great information on the free-play buttonquestion.  I'm going to reply to address the BV error issue only.

SO the WBA BV's are really old and it's not uncommon for them to be flakey.  We refurbish lots of S2K machines so we see a lot.  Anyway, If you clear all of the BV errors and they come back after time, you likely have a faulty BV head/transport.  HOWEVER, you can sometimes fix it by cleaning the contacts in the back.  Get some contact cleaner, power off the machine, pull the head out of the transport, pull the transport out of teh frame.  Spray the connector in the back where the pins are (transport plugs into frame), spray the connector on the transport, Slide it into the frame and pull it out a few times, leave out to dry.  Then do the same with the head - spray both sides, not to get tons of cleaner all over, then insert and pull out a few times, then leave out to dry.  Once everyhing is dry, put everything back together, power up the machine, clear BV errors and see if they come back.  IF they do, I would swap heads/transport to see if the problem goes away, then you know whether it's something else or the BV head/transport.
