WOF Game compatibility for IGT family 14 G23 V3.0
« on: August 20, 2026, 08:51:02 am »
Can anyone help me figure out if this game would work with a G23 MLD running Family 14 os.  on a 660 box.  All the research I have done so far point to games ending in 000, 001, 002, 005 to be compatible with my hardware but no info what 011 represents.

The Game is WOF 5x Pay 3Reel 5 line with code: GC014004DY90011

I was looking at a few others also one ending with 008

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The platform number is key, NOT the version.

Thank you.

From the document link you provided then the 004 relates to both SAVP and/or REELdepth which means a G23 MLD would fall under compatibility of this particular game!  :applause:

Reel Depth is MLD. Game is fine if not a WAP version and you have a wheel.

I don’t have a wheel. And is there a way to tell by the game code I listed if it is a WAP version game?

Basic lesson on AVP's and games you can run, and how to check before wasting your time.  As that can get really frustrating!

First, you need to really understand the game ID naming structure which is listed in the file posted earlier for what parts of a complete game ID means what.  Just those parts in a complete game ID don’t help identify all the game requirements though.

If you're looking at games that have copyrighted themes that aren't owned by IGT.  Such as Wheel of Fortune, or games based on Movies or TV shows which are "leased games".  Are the hardest, and usually impossible to run outside a casino.  As "almost" all are WAP or require a Progressive Controller.  Because they are "leased games".  They are WAP or require a Progressive Controller, so the company leasing the game gets paid a royalty for each spin on that game which has to be tracked externally, not on the machine itself so they get paid.  And also tracks the huge nationwide progressive amount.  A WAP system tracks each spin and sends it to an IGT server in Reno, which is why they are almost all WAP games and won't run without an established internet connection to the server in Reno.

Only 6 characters are the actual game ID and are at the end of the complete game ID.  In your case, DY9001.  Since it has a 7th character at the end, that indicates a "revision".  Which can be 1, 2, or 3 additional characters.  Yours has an additional 1 at the end, so that means it is game DY9001, revision 1.

The other parts of the full game ID listed before the game ID alone, indicate other fundamental requirements, but not all requirements!  A Program Summary Report (PSR for short).  Is a datasheet for this game which has ALL the details.  Including if it's a WAP/LAP game.

The full game ID never lists these options like it being a WAP/LAP game, or mechanical wheel required, that info showing the WAP/LAP requirement, or others such as a wheel requirement is only listed in the PSR sheet.  And an example PSR sheet is a single PDF file that is named shorter, with just the OS version, and Game ID, as well as a version number if there is one.

Something like 014-004DO3-A05.  (OS 014-Game ID-Version if there is one).   See the attached PSR as an example for that specific Game ID I used as an example (014-004DO3-A05) which is attached.  For spinning reel games, while they might work on an MLD, when a mechanical reel is involved though.  They are almost impossible to source, you would generally need a cabinet with the wheel already installed and known working.

Since you're a contributor.  In the download section for IGT, you can download AVP PSR sheets.  Each PSR is one game ID in PDF format.  Download them all!  And extract them all into one single folder on a PC and ensure indexing is enabled for that folder.  Then in a few days, it will index the text of all the PDF files as well.  So if you can't find a specific game ID.  You can sometimes search for part of a title and the indexing on the PC will display them for you and you can get lucky!  You NEED them for reference!  They're the ONLY way to tell 100% if you can run a game or not.  But there are only a few GC games such as this with PSR's available.  However, they have PSR's for almost all games in the 001, 002, and 005 types which are the most common and the bulk of games for AVP's are of these types.

For yours, add dashes as below to separate the parts of the game ID until you are really familiar and have cross referenced PSR sheets with games for all the info for that exact game and version.

The game ID you posted:
GC-014-004-DY9001-1

GC = Stepper Reel (I believe)
014 = The OS version, generally all are 014, but fam20 which is mainly for AVP 4.0 machines, is listed with 020 in this field.  An OS version of 000 is Legacy.  (Some still run on std screen machines but are very old).
004 = For Spinning Reel or MLD screen machines.
DY9001 = The actual game ID and nothing else
1 (not always present) = Revision number.

Some games have up to 9 or more "revisions", with each having "something" different about it.

Sometimes a game can have many revisions.  Such as

GC014004DY90011
GC014004DY90012
GC014004DY90013
GC014004DY90014

Or sometimes a complete game ID may have an ID such as

GC014004DY9001A01   So the game ID is DY9001, and the version is A01 and not 1

And so on.   Each of these is the same game, the revisions may be due to one that allows only a single denomination or single denomination value, another may allow multi denominations to be set.

In extremely rare occasions.  ONE of the versions, say in this case it was GC014004DY90014 instead of the revision you have is the same game, but "might" and that's a big "might", be a revision that isn't a Mega Jackpot game so it isn't a WAP game.  PSR's for IGT don't just say "WAP".  They just say "This is a MegaJackpot game", "PowerBucks", "FortKnox", etc.  If that isn't listed in one of the "versions", then it can run by itself as a standalone.  But only you have the proper mechanical wheel, which also may require a special cabinet in some cases to mount it.

Problem is, it's pretty much 100% guaranteed that you won't find a revision of the game that isn't WAP if one even exists in a different revision of the game.

I've never seen any Wheel of Fortune game title for any machine type that wasn't WAP or LAP.  They want their royalties...

But for example:  The Hangover for std screen machines has like 12 "versions".  Game ID's are the same as below but there are many "versions"  I think this one has C01-C12.

014-001JD5-C01
014-001JD5-C02
014-001JD5-C03
014-001JD5-C04
014-001JD5-C05
014-001JD5-C06
014-001JD5-C07

This game requires an IPC Progressive Controller.  Another type of WAP, but is local so technically a LAP (Local Area Progressive), but for that game to run, you need an IPC or UC casino progressive controller box connected that is about $1500, programmed for that game, and connected to your machine by fiber to be able to run.   So in PSR's, if you see any mention of "Progressive Controller" such as an IPC or UC.  Won't work.  And if in the details, you see any mention of MegaJackpot, PowerBucks, FortKnox, or other term you likely recognize from casinos as WAP games that need a "system ID" or such.  No go, they are all WAP games if you see this required in the PSR.

BUT!  And this is an extreme rarity for leased theme games that pay royalties to the owner of the theme or movie the game is based on.

014-001JD5-C06 is the ONLY version of The Hangover with a PSR that does NOT list that a Progressive Controller is required!

So if you have that exact game ID AND it is version C06.  It will run standalone!  The letdown is that I've never, ever, seen the game with the version ID of -C06 anywhere whatsoever.  Probably never will.  But it does exist!

While I don't have a PSR for this game you have, I have the game itself and the name of the game loader has been annotated, otherwise I wouldn't know for sure.

The complete game ID you listed, GC014004DY9008 is (MegaJackpot) WOF 5x Pay 3R, 5L)

Even if you actually found a cabinet with the wheel (which would cost a LOT).  You still couldn't play it. It's a MegaJackpot game (WAP).  So don't bother wasting your time with that one.

For your machine, I would recommend you stick to 002 and 005 game types (at least for now).  And if you see games that are themed on movies that aren't owned by IGT.  You can reference the PSR for them to verify.  But they will pretty much always be WAP games, or require an IPC or UC Progressive Controller.  There are a few exceptions.  There are about 7 good movie theme based games that will run on an MLD that aren't WAP or need a Progressive Controller!

But they all need a tall vertical top screen.  You can of course run them, and they are really good.  Such as CSI, Back to the Future, Godzilla, Pinball, and a few others.  But on a normal MLD machine, the top screen will be sideways as they expect the top screen to be tall, and vertical.  For Std screen machines, I've not found any themed leased titles that run on them, they are all WAP or need a Progressive Controller.  Not sure why there are for MLD machines, but there are at least a few.

If you REALLY like those games the run standalone but don't want the top screen displaying sideways.   You can easily mod your machine so it has 42 inch vertical HDTV screen on the top.  Not that difficult, no damage to the cabinet and easily removed if desired, and only about $200 for a decent display.  I modded two of my MLD machines like this and posted a how to for anyone who wants to do this which is below.

/nlg/index.php?topic=45296.msg240591#msg240591

But, now if you also load other games which aren't for a tall vertical screen.  Now those games will be sideways on top when switched to play on the machine.   I solved this by getting an HDMI display rotator box from AliExpress for about $100.  Link to that rotator is in my post above assuming it’s still available.  So if I switch to a non tall screen game, I can just press a button and it displays it properly.  Just depends on what you really want and how much effort you're willing to put into it.

I would recommend you get all the PSR files so you can check games for exact requirements.

And stick with 002 and 005 games that are easier and will run on your machine like the ones below if you have them, at least initially until you get really familiar with your AVP.  Such as:

GI014002GG7B05 - Little Shop of Horrors  -  Great game for MLD's

Or 005 games as many of them are very good as well, examples below.  There are more 005 games that support both MLD and Std screen than 002 MLD only games.

GI-014-005-GR8E03 - Midnight Eclipse
GI-014-005JC7-E01 - Vanishing Act

You'll find there are about 200 games even though not every one will work.  I'd say at least 120+ will and find more than enough to load the max number of games on your machine at once with games you really like.

With plenty more you may like, but you can't load them all at once or you'll max out the NVRAM if you load more than 30-35 games at once and it will crash the machine.  If it does, nothing is actually damaged, and it's an easy fix, just clear NVRAM and SafeStorage, NOT the drive.  And repeat setup.

The OS and games will still be installed on the drive.  So you can just reconfigure the machine settings and re-enable the games.  But it WILL crash again if you run too many games at once.  So best to uninstall a few games if this occurs so it doesn't happen again anytime soon.  Stay below about 90% NVRAM utilization which is displayed as you load games.  85% utilization is usually best to completely avoid a crash caused by the machine running out of NVRAM.

It's frustrating otherwise by taking all the time just to load a game, and it tilts for no WAP connection or no Progressive controller when you enable it.

You can always try.  You'll get fast at loading/configuring the machine real quick.  But I can tell you that if you verify a game by looking at its PSR first.  It will be less hassle and more rewarding when it acturally runs!

Good luck!

Wow!  I really appreciate the detailed info and shedding so much light on the matter. This helped a LOT to understanding the naming and details associated to each game. I have already downloaded the PSR files and I did some digging.  The other game I was looking at was Wheel of Fortune Double diamond 3 reel 1 line game that is: GC014-004DY8-0008.  Even though I could not find anything in the PSR files, from your detailed explanation this would be yet another one that would not work on my system.  Pretty bummed but appreciate the heads up!  :hail:

I had seen your other links relating to the Vertical screen mods and that was something I was considering to implement at a later time.  The screen content looked a little distorted using the rotator box and I was thinking of just setting it up where I could swing the screen down for vertical games and then swing to the side of the cabinet and back when using standard games and just display on the built in top display.  But that would be a project for another time till I get 100% immersed into this system.

Even though your burst my bubble on the ability to run wheel of fortune games on the G23, at least I didnt have to waste time and money on trying.   :cool_thumb_up:

Hope it helps!  There's certainly no "quick start" guide to AVP's!  And ya, not being able to run some of those games like WOF is a drag!  But there's more than enough to fully load the machine with games you really like.  With the option to switch it up with others anytime you want.

When I got my first AVP machine, I have 4 now.  I didn't know much.  But had my ekey, diag key, OS loader, and game loader flash drives.  That's all you really need to do anything with an AVP as far as software and games.  And change all the batteries if it isn't known how old they are.

And I just tinkered, read docs, and learned what to do and what not to do.

Whenever I hit a wall, I posted here, and all the other great people on NLG were willing to either tell me what I was doing wrong.  Or point me in the right direction to resolve almost all problems I experienced.

Others still do the same and regularly assist.  So I try to pay that forward when I can since I was given so much info and advice from others on NLG when I didn't know a lot of these things!  And after you've done things like reloading the machine from scratch with a new SSD, or just loading/removing/configuring games.  It isn't long before you get really fast at doing it so it isn't nearly as much of a chore as it was initially.

For the tall screen mod.  Ya, that's exactly what I did the first time.  I had a monitor mount that rotated the display 90 degrees and it was easy to rotate when switching to a non tall format game.  But later I had many machines close to each other so there wasn't enough room and I got the HDMI rotator box.  It does stretch a few games.  But the ones I like and have on the machine all look pretty decent and not overly stretched when rotated with the HDMI box.  So that took care of needing to rotate it manually for me.

Good luck!  Half the fun is when it takes some effort, but you end up making it work!  Eventually there isn't nearly as much going wrong where you already know why and can fix it up relatively easily.

Thanks again for all of the help.

Curious,  What is the best way of getting a hold of large qty of the compatible software library beyond the core Gameking games.  I have seen some sold on eBay individually for $40-200 each and I have heard others say something about getting them in qty on hard drives.  I personally would love to eventually have a handful of drives that I can setup with preset games I can swap and setup settings for and create different experiences on the same machine.
