Getting 7777 in both winner paid and credits windows

Please help! I have an early model IGT S-Plus upright. When I power up, I get 7777 in the winner paid window and 7777 in the credits window. Reels lock-up and fluorescent lights come on. Coins fall straight through to pan. When I turn the Jackpot key and hold it for a second or so, I hear a noticeable click and the spin reels button lights up. Nothing happens when I press it. The spin reels lever cranks over freely but again nothing happens. Nothing happens when I press the self test button either. I have three different 10 mhz S-plus mpu boards all with good batteries and all three give the same results except one causes the candle to flash. Lower part flashes fast upper flashes slow. I have pulled the backplane and put a multimeter to all the caps and see continuity and the resistors are within proper resistance. I have not put the multi meter to the MPU yet. I checked the 24v power supply transformer and it shows good continuity on input and output sides. The Game is an odd one “Volcanos of Cash” I believe it is a variation of “Triple Diamonds”. I have SP731 and SS3664 chips in it and yes the notches are seated the correct way. I am at my wits end. Please if anyone has some direction to point me it would greatly appreciated!

Sounds as if you are in the bookkeeping mode, continue to turn the jackpot reset key , on click at a time, the number in the coins played window should count up as you do this. One digit at a time, typically after number 8, display should go blank and the real code or game ready should be in the display.

Some times you have to go to 12 to get out of the bookkeeping mode.

Thanks Jim. I tried the Jackpot key as you suggested. Nothing happened until the 11th turn of the key. On that turn the noticeable click happened again and the spin reel light went out but the 7777's remained. One more turn and another click sound and the light came on again. So it seems twelve turns of the Jackpot key is completing some sort of cycle. In any case I'm still stuck, but thank you for trying!

Another way to get out of the Accounting Mode, or "cycle", is to open/close the door, once.

This "cycle" you're speaking of, could be about 11 or 12 "pages" of the Accounting menu.

Thanks Stayouttadabunker! I have opened and closed the door countless times trying various things with no effect. I'm still getting those darn 7777's.

One of two things, either the door optics are not working, or the machine needs to be cleared!

With the door open, if you press the white test button does anything happen?

Maybe your software or board is shot?

Now it sounds like your door optics aren't working.
Try this...>>>
Watch the right-most [Coins Played] window on the reel glass display.
As you close the door and push the door latch down, whatever number that's in there should momentarily go out then come back ON... displaying something again.
IF you see the [Coins Played] number go out for a few seconds, you now know the door optics are working.
