Bally GameMaker v7200 not working

I had replaced the battery and the machine was working great.  I left it on for a few days and then noticed a wide black vertical line on left side of monitor.  It was about 2" wide and ran from top to bottom of screen, the rest of main menu of games was present.  I turned it off and back on several times, the black line would be there and the rest of the screen was blue.  Now when I turn it on the monitor is blank.  All 4 green lights are on on the cpu, the green light is on on the monitor, 2 red lights are on on the BV (BV does not cycle).  When it starts it says "copy" but does not complete the copy right message.
Any suggestions?

This is a new one for me.  I have both a desktop and an upright.  I've never experienced this issue with either. Although I have had some monitor issues where I had to reseat the monitor.

You'll have to reconfigure the whole thing when you replace the battery, but you no doubt know that.   Have you tried replacing that "new" battery (3.7v) or reseating the monitor?

If Chris-socal shows up he might have some ideas.

Yes I've checked and replaced the battery.  Since the game does not load and play (which it can do with out a good monitor) I'm leaning toward monitor being good and problem is cpu.

This does not sound like a monitor issue, probably one of the ICs is out.
If you boot it with reset chip it doesn’t kick it back to life? There is also a Debug eprom for those.

I tried but was unable to do the ramclear, when I turned power on it started the "bally" message but doesn't complete it.

I had a 7200 board several months ago that wouldn’t reset properly and no sound. I gave up and sent it to K-Lar. Alan found they used some of the logic pins on U18 sound prom, he replaced that and it worked. That doesn’t mean sound chip is the problem with yours, my point is that the logic can sometimes surprise you!
These boards are very robust but sometimes one of the logic chips can fail.

You flipped dip switch 7 and 8 when you used the reset chip?

Yes i flipped 7&8 on dipswitch 1 on.

when I power it on with out the cpu in place the bally audio message plays in full, when I put the cpu in and power on it only say "bally" and doesn't complete the audio message.

Is it expensive to repair these boards or is looking for used one better option?

Considering you are looking at an electronic component that is probably over 25 years old, I don’t think it was outrageous and was probably less than buying a replacement board. It is likely the only monetary repair the machine has ever had so…..
I can’t quote a price because I have no idea what is wrong but think in terms of terms of $200, keeping in mind it has to be shipped two ways.
