I guess nobody on this site has ever heard of a nvram upgrade. I was told the only reason i don't get a reply is because no one has had the same problem before, not because i'm not a contributing member.

We try and help all members here, contributing or not. None of us are paid for this; it's all volunteer. The money goes to "the store" for server and other costs to operate the site.
Other factors are that many members have jobs and are at work. Or they might be puttering around the house or yard.

I have no idea what you're talking about.  What adapter?  Got and pictures or docs of what you're looking for?  If you're referring to the SRAM on the MPU board it's at it's limit with 512K chips installed.

Furthermore, your sarcastic remarks in other posts here aren't going to get you any help, especially after what I just stated politely in reply #2.

I sorry Tilt if my description is not right. almost all of the help i have been getting is from Google AI, and he's only right about half the time. I have 2 , i guess ram or he called them NVRAM on my MPU. they are smaller 16 pin soldered on an adapter thats bigger and plugs into the places next to games and pixels. AI said there was an upgrade were it fit without the adapter. i have a bad pin on 1 of my adapters. i was hoping for some conformation, because you can't always go by AI. Thanks for showing an interest. I really appreciate the eeprom mod. it was a stroke of genius.

Please post a picture of what you are in need of. That way you can learn the correct terminology. Nobody wants to play a 1000 questions with someone who has received bad info somewhere else. Your attitude about the bad info doesn’t help. If you don’t have a clue ask a questions with a pic. AI and google may give info but not always correct and definitely not this time. There are many posts on here to post pics, it’s not just add pic , there are limits to size. Again nobody gets paid to help you it’s all voluntary. The 3902 platform has been around for a long time, many parts and knowledge are available.

I know nvram upgrades are common in pinball machines, it is great because it allows you to eliminate the AAA backup batteries that are known to leak and corrode the boards.
While the same functionality may work in some slot machine applications, there is an entirely different security system in place in slot machines that pinball machines don’t have to worry about. Pinball machines are passive, slot machines are active in a very controlled environment.

Slot machines are essentially vaults potentially filled with thousands of dollars at any given moment and on some machines the memory is more than just basic retention of the game data. In many cases the machine knows if the door is opened when the machine is turned off. Just one example.
Not sure who you are asking or expecting to understand the boards at such a granular level, we are forum members just like you. If you want engineering level responses you might be waiting a long time.

Fellow paying member,

Chris

I will try to post a pic.

That isn't a upgrade at all.  It's a SOIC SRAM chip on a DIP adapter.  You may also find a DIP SRAM chip on some MPU boards.  IGT produced them both ways.  I suspect the DIP SRAM went obsolete during production so they put the SOIC SRAM on an adapter and used it instead.  Both have the same function, storage capacity, etc, just in a different package.

Thank you. I think i understand. it's not an upgrade, just a different chip without a Dipp adapter. my dipp adapter has a bad pin. I soldered a bypass, but the machine will not retain data. I was hoping to replace with the ones that don't need adapter. By the way, you guys are right... Just because i am having a bad day or bad time, that is no reason to put that on you guys. It will not happen again. Not because of anything said, but because i feel this site is worth it, I will in the future become a contributing member.

You can replace them with the DIP version if you want to, but there really isn't a real reason to.  The SRAM chips do not need to be removed when you change the game software out so there's little chance of them getting damaged.  Hope that helps.

I guess i was thinking the sram  stores the data when i turn off the power. for some reason i lose everything except tito data when i turn it on, and sometimes i lose even the tito and have to keychip.

Pull up the schematic, find which ICs the backup voltage goes to and verify the battery voltage is strong on those pins. Its possible there is a bad trace on the backup line, or a diode is failing.
