Games of Navada basket-case!

Hey Folks,
I’ve finally finished the post-retirement “priority” projects so now I’m back to my “Games of Nevada” dollar machine.  A number of folks previously provided some great support and hopefully I can learn some more and get this thing working properly.

As a reminder, it takes both “Ike” dollars (or tokens) & “Susan-B”. The Ike dollars are collected in the hopper, the Susan-B’s drop to a collection container in the base.

Currently, the machine powers up, but shuts off after 5 - 20 minutes via the “circuit breaker”, (see pic) Pushing the button (see pic) resets it and it powers back up. Then the cycle starts over again. There’s a “smell” that I sourced to the vertical coil on the right of the Pay-Out Unit. A thermal gun on the coils indicated a high of 240 ̊. I was able to reset it by manually actuating the horizontal coil.
 
Additionally; It always “thinks” the second coin has been deposited. Manually activating the “Reel Timer Unit”, causes the reels to spin, However, when it lands on a winning combination, the hopper doesn’t dispense the coins. (It used to before the shutting off issue). I’m wondering if there’s a link between the hot coil and the hopper no longer dispensing coins for a winning line? And the handle has never activated the reels.
Lastly, perhaps someone also has some thoughts on the following:

1)   Does anyone have a schematic and/or service manual for this machine? HOPEFULLY!
2)   Does anyone know what the potentiometer is for in the pic of the Pay-out Unit?
3)   Any idea what the value might be in the current state?
4)   Any idea what the value might be if it were operating properly?
5)   Any idea what it might cost for me to pay someone to fix it if no response to question #1 above?

I realize this email is asking a LOT! So I very much appreciate your time, response and knowledge!

Hi Badbaud,

Appreciate the quick response and information. I checked KLAR but unfortunately, the only schematic I found was for a draw-poker machine. Did I miss something?

Any other thoughts?
