S+ “mini photon” progressive meter
« on: September 12, 2026, 11:09:40 am »
In my prior topic I posted about wanting to find a progressive meter for my S+ that would fit inside the top pay glass in the small diagonal slanted window.  Figured I’d start a new topic for visibility so others might chime in. I found what I was looking for in an old thread. Does anyone have any idea where I can get this? It’s called a mini photon seven digit progressive display, and it looks like a few were available a while back, I even checked the store old archives and looks like they were much more common back then.  I’ve attached the photo I was able to find from 2014.

FYI-  I think knagl installed one in his machine at one point based an old thread from the .net achives. Tried to pm him but his box is full.

Can you post a picture ? in particular the harness connector that ties into the machine.

The S2000 ones are netplex, wouldn't work with an S+.  It has been a while since I've seen the ones for an S2000.  I currently own one for the S+, never got one for my S2000 as I use the bigger dot matrix progressive display.

Here’s a wider shot of a one I pulled from the NLG archive. The white connector in the front probably the one that ties into the one behind the top pay glass.

Thanks but I was asking for a pic from PbWizzard to see if the connector was the same as what the S+ uses - I don't have any S2000 to compare it with.

Rick however jumped in and clarified that the S2000 uses NetPlex which is a different animal. I would once again suggest calling up the vendors on the home page and ask if they have any of the mini-photons- most have web pages that are sorely out of date and such animals that your looking for are not a high volume item they are often not listed on the web.

Thanks.  I thought having a photo and a name to call the thing (mini photon) might shake something loose in someone’s mind.

Thanks. Do you have one to sell, or know where I could find one. Pickens are slim. I've email (not called) all of the vendors from the front page, and received no response. I'd like to avoid making a bunch of calls if you or someone can offer me one.

I think the ones he has are for the S2000 and as Rick clarified won’t be compatible with s+

FYI-  I think knagl installed one in his machine at one point based an old thread from the .net achives. Tried to pm him but his box is full.

It's not possible for my inbox to be full, but it is possible for you to be out of message room since you're a newer member. You'll want to try deleting everything in your inbox and sent box and that should free up some room.

Regardless, no need to PM me. I'm here. What can I help with? In your picture is an S+ Mini Photon progressive display. I don't have any for sale, though. The S+ ones use a square molex plug that plugs into the white square molex plug that's in the top box of just about every S+ machine.

Ahhh… so that’s what the red box means at the top of my pm box. Thought it was the recipients status that was preventing me from pm’ing. At any rate, the obvious question here is do you know of any source where I could possibly get one of these things? I figure the answer is no because you would have told me.  The other obvious question is why am I so fixated on getting this type of progressive meter when there are better ones out there that are more readily available? The answer to that is, I don’t have a great reason.  I just figured this one’s easier to work with and will be less expensive. And after all, the chances of me hitting a jackpot on this thing or something like one out of 256,000 so it’s probably never going to happen in my lifetime. And if it does hit it’s just going to be my own money anyway (and whatever money I can get from my sons 14 year old friends when I  “run out of” house quarters and I “forget” where I kept those pesky door keys).

They are super easy to set up. Visually they're not the most impressive thing since they're not especially large, but they're still fun to tinker with.

Due mostly to their age they're harder to find these days. I'd suggest posting a "WTB" (Want To Buy) post in the Classifieds section to see if anyone has one. I'd specify that you're looking for the S+ Mini Photon progressive meter.

Edited to add: since you're not a contributing member it won't let you create the post in the Classifieds section, but go ahead and make a new WTB post here in the S+ section and I'll move it to the Classifieds section for you as soon as I see it.

Thanks knagl.  Here it is:
****
WTB:  For an IGT S+ (9/1992), looking for a “mini photon” progressive meter.  This is a 7 digit LED display that is mounted behind the top pay-glass in front place of the “progressive” window. Also need the board that goes with it. I understand this display is quite old and may be difficult to find. But there were quite a few of them around at a certain point. Here is a photo showing what the board and mini photon meter look like:

*******

Much appreciated!
