Looking for help - Alpha s9000

Modifying this for transparency, focusing on one machine for starters.

Looking for some help to get a s9000 up and running. Was a garage purchase, so I know 0 about its history. Penny Frenzy. So far I found the 24 volt power supply was bad, so thanks to a member on here I have that replaced. The 5/12 volt supply seems to be working. Looks like the LCD panel is out, or so dim I can't make out anything on it. I've replaced all 3 cr2032 batteries. Picked up a clear card from another member on here. I've run the clear procedure, it passed. The unit will get to a point in the boot process and say "Could not find /games/video.cfg" and then go to a black screen, and reboot if left to sit for about 15 minutes, repeating the process. Could it be that the game card is bad? Something with the OS card maybe? Anyone might have some next steps I can try short of sourcing replacement game/OS cards to try next? I am using a 17 inch VGA monitor plugged into the video port currently. It's the only way I can see what the bios/boot sequence is doing. Thanks for any advice.

The monitor edid is not compatible with the alpha OS.  Your 17 VGA monitor is returning the resolution it supports when it gets polled by the OS and it is returning resolutions that are not what the OS is expecting to see, so you are getting a config error.  You need to use a monitor that has the same resolution as the native monitor.  I believe the needed supported resolution is  1280 x 768.

Thanks rickhunter. May have an older vga with that resolution kicking around at the office to test further with. Otherwise I'll post up in the classifieds and get one on order. See if I can move to the next steps getting this machine going.

Your monitor may just need the inverter replaced.  You may be able to find one cheaper than buying a whole monitor.   You would have to take the monitor apart to get to the inverter though.

No dice on finding a 15:9 (1280x768) monitor to test with today. I am comfortable taking apart the monitor itself, but I think with it being super dim, might be better off just ordering a replacement whole monitor for starters, then I can cobble something together with the other 2 I'll have and see about creating one functional, or something just needing an inverter perhaps. I'll post up in the classified, then update here once i have a usable monitor to proceed with further testing. Thanks again for the help rickhunter
