5000plus hopper getting 31 code

Hi  well brought the slot into the house today and got it all set up,,, working well but,,, i am getting a lot of error code 31  jam in the payout hopper,,,,  does not happen much on low number payouts like 2,4,6,8,   but when it gets larger like 15,20,30 or so almost always will go into 31 and i have to mess with the hopper ,, and i really cant find much wrong so end up just pushing the reset on the mpu board and pays fine again for a while???  what do you think the problem may be,,,, i replaced the star with a new one and cleaned it up( it had some rust and was very dirty when i got it, i am not sure if their is a adjustment on anything that would help on this problem,,,, any help on this   please   thanks  ( here is a photo of the hopper)

I would verify that the hopper is physically set-up for the coin I was playing. For example, a quarter hopper will "kinda somewhat" work for nickels, but will not work consistently, as it is set up for just a slightly larger coin size. If you are not sure how to tell is you have the right denomination hopper, take a pic of the inside of the hopper with coins "lined up" on the shelf wheel. Someone will be able to tell by the shelf wheel in relation to the size of the coin.

What is an error 31 according to the manual?

Check the hopper cable.
Today I removed hopper from my Bally 5000  machine give 31 (hopper jam) error.
I connect hopper and press reset button while door switch open.
It cleared 31 error code.
