If you hit a progressive, it should have gone to handpay. The machine has no way of knowing what the progressive amount is. In the older type games, the progressive accounting was held in the controller, in your case the Mikohn inside. The only thing the machine does is send out a coin-in signal to the controller so it knows to increment the progressive by whatever set contribution percentage there was. There's probably a wrong setting in the machine somewhere that is not telling the system to go into handpay in case a progressive is hit, or it doesn't know there's a progressive installed. I'll bet the 1,000 credits is just the non-progressive payout.
