If it took money until the error, check for a coin jammed  in the hopper. A lot of common errors can be cleared by opening and closing the door. When you close the door make sure you latch it, as the door optics need to read a closure to clear errors. Kind of back to the cash can. If it is open or ajar the optics read it as an open door and will not clear. But make sure it doesn't have a coin jam as this will prevent proceeding further. Good luck.

For clarification, that is the "self test" button. Just to keep everyone on the same page with terminology.

(Better to call it by its correct name so nobody confuses it with the jackpot reset keyswitch on the side of the machine.)

Ok I installed a new battery and I still have the same problem.

Oh! Ok, I never seen you say it was low, but I see where you were going to check it.

If, after installing new battery, you cannot get to a 61-1 (by pressing white self-test button), then before a new MPU, I would definitely try a Clear. If you have a bill validator, go ahead and order a Set chip, as you will need that as well after the Clear. If that does not work, it sounds like you will be in the market for an MPU board.

The battery was at 2.7v so I changed it. I've tried the clear chip but I still can get past 61

Oh, I see. Yah, sounds like you may need to replace MPU.
