Reel Chip Change Not Registering

Hi Guys,

Have perused this forum many times in the past for problem solving and this is my first post - great forum and very very helpful! I have two S+ round tops including a Triple Diamond Deluxe and a Triple Red, White & Blue.  I recently performed several fixes and upgrades, which I'll detail in a separate post, but I have one outstanding problem I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I changed out the reel chips on both machines to alter the payout percentages.  On the first machine (Triple Red, White & Blue) everything went as expected.  After swapping chips, got the expected 67 and 61-1 error codes, which cycled and cleared immediately.  Game plays properly and test screen registers new chip number installed.  All is good there.

However, on the Triple Diamond Deluxe machine, it is not registering the chip change at all.  After swapping chips the machine starts right up as if nothing has changed (no error codes at all on first startup) and the test screen still shows the old chip number even though the new chip is actually installed on the MPU.  I've verified the chip is properly seated and no bent pins multiple times.  Also tried a RAM clear.  Nothing seem to work to get it to recognize the new chip.  The machine plays fine and is operating completely as expected even though it is a different chip physically installed than what the system is registering.

Any ideas on what else I can do to get it to recognize the new chip?  Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Are the chips origional IGT or copies? If they're copies it may be mismarked and you got what you had. The machine wouldn't run with a bad reel chip. Can you try it in the other machine?

They are copies, the first one worked great and vendor claims they're "certain" it's the right chip, so I was giving them benefit of the doubt.  Hadn't thought about putting it in the other machine (as I should have).  I'll give that a try when I get home.

The eproms are the only source of data on the S+, if the S+ says it has the eprom program that it does, then that is what it is.  The S+ does not "download" the eprom data to memory, it uses it from the eprom on the fly.

You don't need to put the eprom in another machine ..

If the test shows the same SS number for both eproms then the newly installed chip has the same binary code as the original. As mentioned before you received the same SS chip as you currently have.

Didn't have a chance to get back to this until this evening.  Sure enough, they sent me a mis-labeled chip.  Thanks to everyone for the feedback.
