BV printer and touchscreen com failure
« on: November 23, 2015, 09:00:29 pm »
The machine is a 17"stinking rich with 3904 board, it was working just fine yesterday. They turned it on today and BV, touchscreen, and printer com failure. I'm not there to look at the machine myself, and they don't have another to swap parts. He says there are no lights on the printer or the BV, so I am guessing that there it a problem with the power supply. All other lights seem to be on. Does any one have any other ideas, or had this happen before?

Those are all Netplex devices and the error is saying the MPU board can't communicate with them.  They are connected to the same bus, so a fault on one can cause problems with all of them.   Try disconnecting one device at a time and see if the error clears for the other devices.  I'd start with the Bill Validator because it's the easiest to pull out, then the ticket printer, and finally the touchscreen controller.  When you find the device that is faulty the error message should clear for the other netplex devices.  I don't think your power supply is the problem or the machine would not boot at all.

Thanks for the input, I understand that a problem with one device can cause the netplex to go down, but they seem to not be getting power at all'. No red lights on WBA no green light on the printer bezel. And couldn't the power supply loose one output voltage say 12v and still power the rest of the machine? I did initially have him remove the BV but nothing changed.

One of the first things to show up when a power supply is loose is a netplex error. Have him make sure the power supply is seated properly. Also have him check to make sure none of the pigtail plugs coming off it are loose. Along with checking for burnt or bent/missing pins of course. Failing that, my bet would be a bad power supply

Cowboy, are you thinking of a S2000 with the "Display Netplex is down" message?  That's usually the power supply behind the reels.  I haven't seen an I-game display the messages brianfink has that was caused by a bad power supply.

The motherboard schematic shows that the two +13VDC outputs are combined on it, same with the +25VDC.  So electrically there's a single input of each to the machine, if either is missing the machine will not boot.  You could check the netplex connnectors with a multimeter check to make sure both voltages are present.  On any netplex connector Pin 1 is +25V, Pin 6 is +13V.  The only way I see the MPU board would have both and not the Netplex connectors too is if a circuit trace opened on the motherboard.  Check it and see what ya get.

Yeah Tilt, I was thinking if they use the same power supply they could be subject to similar problems.

That is caused by a bad/missing SIN IN output on pin 7 of the power supply.  It causes a Display's Netplex is down error on a S2000, on an I game it will cause a "Line Frequency Detect Error" to be displayed on the screen.

I hate saying that I fixed this error on an enchanted unicorn i-game and didn't write my solution down. It was puzzling as it took 2 days of going back and forth trying to figure it out. I wanna say that an exposed printer harness caused this issue in the first place as it rebooted the machine and  the error showed up on restart. def know I swapped out the mpu but that didnt work in my case.Doesn't hurt to try power supply just in case it is that. For some reason a card on the board that had dip switches (sound card?) is popping in my head and doubt Im recalling that outta left field but ive seen alotta games since then so my memory could be jumbled. how about seeing if they have another mpu on a working machine (good cards and chips) that you could swap see if you get the same errors when you start it in that machine . I could be wrong but for you I hope im right. Good luck and let us know where youre at with it

Well we figured it out. after unplugging the BV and printer, we pulled the monitor. It was a cortek monitor where the touch controller isn't on the out side so we just re seated it, and all errors went away except for the BV comm error. I sent him another BV to try and hopefully problem solved. It's kind of strange to me that the machine can be working fine and just all of a sudden get 2 seemingly unrelated problems.

Same exact process I went through with the I-game I told you about a few posts up. after I cleared the other 2 tilts, the wba wouldn't turn on at all. hope that its a bad bv but seems too easy lol GL and hope that solves it.

After changing the BV everything seems to be working fine now. I guess maybe the loose monitor connection fried the BV.  :Scratch-Head:

Ya I wasn't that fortunate when it happened to me. Glad that's all that it was.

Well the machine worked for a couple of days then wan't back to the same errors. We switched out all 3 devices printer, BV, monitor, still getting errors, so tried a different board and seems to be working now.
