error 61-1
« on: December 04, 2015, 04:30:10 pm »
This is the story, I got another s+ slot with no cpu in it , this is a early s+ round top with the cpu on the side and no bill accepter it is a Red  White and Blue game I put in a working cpu with Black Tie game and reel chips because I didn't have an RW&B chips when I put it in, it came up with a 61, I pressed the test button it went to 61-1 pressed it again and the game started and played . I got the RW&B chips and replaced the Black Tie chips started it and it came up with 61, I pressed the test button and got 61-1 pressed the test button stayed 61 -1 .  Now I restarted it and came up with a 61, pressed the test button and it went to 61-1 closed the door turned the key it stayed 61 -1. Changed the door optics tried again still 61-1. I put the Black Tie chips back in and it played after pressing the test button?? Tried the RWB chips again same problem??  It seems like the door optics are not working but tested them on a working machine and they are good? Where do I go from here??
Thanks

If it's playing after changing chips I'd say the optics are OK. You may have a corrupted RWB chip since that is causing the problem. Or it may need a clear with those chips to get it to play. When you close the door and latch it does the display go off for a second then come on with the insert coin light? If so the optics are working.

You are latching the door before turning the reset key? Another poster has had a similar problem and the suggestion was to do a clear as the op could not get the 61-1 to clear. I've never cleared one by pressing the test button again. I always close and latch the door and turn the key. I know this question may be moot but...You are installing the chips correctly with the notch facing the right way? I'm trying to think of things that could cause your problem. You did get the correct reel (SS) chip for a 2cm 3cm etc. for a RWB?

I tried clearing the cpu and it went through up to 999 , I did it a couple of times but with the RW&B chips it still locks up on 61-1. I just bought the chips and trust the seller and always have high regards for him and whatever he sells. I am sure the chips were in right as I doubled checked each time I tried it. Do you think I should try that board with the RW&B chips in another machine and see what happens??

Thanks

Yes that is a great idea. I swap boards around to check them out. You may have a bad board. Never take anything for granted on these. The dumbest thing can make them act crazy. And we're working with boards that are almost 40 years old. You know the reels and payouts won't match but...if it doesn't fire up and go then you have an answer. If it does then GHUA! We'll try to find an answer.

OK , I am not alone on the idea . I will switch the board out tomorrow and luckly I have the same game and RW&B so this should tell me something. I will let you know what I find.

THANKS

If it doesn't work try the Black Tie chips in that board and see what happens. If it works then the RW&B chips are still suspect.

Okay, I've read back through this and here's what we've got:  RW&B machine no mpu.  Black Tie Machine working. This board and chips works in the RW&B. RW&B chips do not work in either game even after a clear. Since Black Tie machine is known working and the board is known working.....the only thing left is the SP and SS chips. You've checked everything else. I don't know if either one of these could be a 16mhz and the other a 10mhz but it still points back to the chips.

This is a weird one, I tried the board with the new chips into a working RW&B machine (same RW&B as the other machine) it cleared the 61-1 but the payouts were not right?? Thinking the chips are bad?

BUT I put the board from the good working RW& B into the machine that won't clear and it won't clear past the 61 -1

But when I use the Black tie chips it plays but the jackpot reset key dose nothing???

I have changed the door optics from a working machine but still nothing from the reset key?? (this on both working boards) but they clear on other RW&B  machine??  Could this problem be in the mother board???  I am lost on this one?

Now from what I see in this mess the key reset does not work (tested switch and is good) so looking at mother board ? wire?  ??

The payouts sound like the reel (SS) chip. Are they both 2 coin or 3 coin machines? The same basically? If you're putting a 2 coin chip in a 3 coin machine the pay table is going to be off. Make sure the wiring is hooked up to the reset key. Maybe trace it down and look for a broken or unhooked wire. The mother board works with the B/T game so I am hesitant to point a finger at it. Take a look at the rest stuff and see if anything is wrong there. You don't have to  use the reset key with the B/T game?

The two machines are the same 2 coin , round top, no bill accepters and cpu on the side , Wires look good but I will have to spend more time to look closer at them later (wife has me working on Christmas decorations)

The payouts are way off 2 coins for three 7's where the other RW&B chips pay out as they should?

The really weird part is the Black tie chips work without the reset key?

Sometimes games go in and just boot up and work. What's the number of your SSchip? After the decorations of course.

OK now I lost the 61 -1 but just come up with a 0, The door optics do not work , I tested them on another machine and they are good, the wires all look good , so I am still lost? What can cause the door optics not to work?

Are they out of alignment? You can check this with masking tape and a pencil mark. Tape and mark the door optic with the latch all the way down. Then tape and mark the machine where the optic is. With the door shut and latch down do the marks line up?

They seem to line up , I even took one out and held it right in front of the other, moved it up and down with ,no blinks no change? I am going to try another mother board just to see if that could be it?

Keep us posted. I just don't get why the B/T game will work and the others won't. But they work in the other RW&B (kinda). Generally those back planes aren't so game specific. (just kidding) You are making me drink a lot of coffee this morning though.

If you have a switch on the cash can door it has to be closed. Or remove the wires from the switch and wire nut them together. Those micro switches fail easily.

This is the early S+ machines. They don't have a b/v. But what I would like to do is for slotmandave to put the board with the "new rwb chips" back in the other RW&B machine that the pay tables were off on. Boot it up and get it in ready to play mode. Push the test button until you get a 4 showing. The two numbers flashing will be the SPchip and the SSchip. Compare the numbers on the machine with the numbers on the chips themselves and see if they are the same. I think we have a couple of things going on here, and we need to concentrate on them one at a time. If we rule out the chips then we can proceed.

I don't think the chips are causing the reset key problem. But they seem to be acting strange as in the pay table discrepancy.

FIXED  It was the mother board, Seeing the optics tested good, and the wires looked good I took a chance and changed it, the payouts are right and the optics are working but what got me all through this was the Black Tie chips worked without the optics working.
