Hey all,

My machines were powered off for a few years (project a.d.d., too many hobbies). Anyway, I'm having a Superbowl party and powered the machines up to test them and, of course, ram errors. Looking through posts, I checked the battery levels, one was .5 volts and the other was around 2. Long story short, I went to unsolder them and think I got carried away and got into some of the other electrical lines on the back.

So I bought 2 replacement mpu boards just in case. I had a 17 chip already, but bought a 97 chip. Do you think I'll need to use the 97 chip or even the 17 chip? Can I get away with just swapping game chips and powering it back up? Machines worked fine when I used them last.

Fyi, I have a 3 reel with bonus reel super spin sizzling 7's and the other is Ms. Little Green Men vision machine.

Forgot to mention these are 500 series boards.

As long as the chips on the boards are right you should be able to just do ram error and crc mismatch error resets with the jackpot reset key. You're not changing the motherboard so all settings for denom and whatnot should be retained, no need for clear or key chip

Ok, I swapped the boards. The Ms little green men works fine. Super spin sizzling 7's though is not.

Everything powered up, had errors. Dunno why but I pressed the test button on mpu. Now No leds on front display at all and top 4 yellow and next green are lit on mpu.

Any thoughts?

Turn the machine off and make sure the MPU is seated snuggly

For what it's worth, with a 4 reel Super Spin Sizzling 7's, you need to be sure to use the proper SG chip set. I forget what they are, but you will know as you had them on the original board. That game is funny about only running on a special SG chip. If you need the numbers, I can pull my board and get them for you.

I pulled the mpu and stuck it back in several times.

And as for the sg chip, I took all chips, even the ram from u18 and 45 I think it was, and moved them to new mpu board. Only difference is original board was a 504a, new one is a 502.

Kinda weird that now there's no lights in the info display or coin counts at all.

Try the mpu that you know is good in the Super Spin. If it doesn't work You might need a power supply.

I was going to suggest making sure the chips are inserted the right direction and there are no legs that missed their holes

I was thinking about that as well & also make sure the GME 1&2 aren't reversed. GME2 goes in the first socket left to right. Seems kinda backwards but that's how they go. A pic of that board might help us find the obvious if such exists.

Very good detailed pic. Everything does appear to be correct. Chances are that board is not good.

Well that stinks. The board I put in the Ms little green men is working good, maybe I'll swap everything out and check it tomorrow. Keep getting a stupid for error on it anyway. Time to get rid of the door optics, the belt and bill doors were already bypassed.

Should I try clearing it with a 97 key first? Will that make any difference?

You should not need to clear. I would only bypass the optics if there's a problem but to each his own. I made up a few bypass harnesses for testing them. It's quick, easy plug & play without removing your optics or modifying any existing wiring.

A harness sounds like a good way to go.

Yeah wanted to make it quick & easy. I just found one that matched the one on the cabinet optic.
