Info needed on a German slot
« on: February 15, 2025, 02:57:41 pm »
I acquired this machine today and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. I’d like to know if the power cord can just be swapped for an American plug, or will it need a power converter? Also, I’m hoping to find a key for it so I don’t have to drill the locks. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated

The machine is a Rotomat Regent 100

I wouldn't plug that into any wall socket, until you determine exactly what kind of power supply is in there.
Somewhere on that machine HAS to be a label or sticker saying what the power ratings are?

 :I_agree_1:

It appears that it is a Nema 6 plug in your photo.  That would lead me to believe that your machine is wired for 220/240v.  Once you get into the machine you should be able to tell if there are no markings on the outside.  You may need to purchase a step-up transformer to run your machine.  Or....

I do not know what voltage the electronics on the inside run at but, you may be able to purchase and wire in a replacement 120v transformer with the same outputs as your current one.

It may be best to post a photo of the internals and transformer and maybe someone can cross reference a transformer.  I am aware of those machines but, have never been in one.

Oh I’m definitely it plugging it in. I would really like to find a key so I don’t have to drill it out. I might contact a locksmith and see if they can get me inside.

Here is the only sticker on the outside.

Maybe this will help...I had one similar many many years ago...they run on 220vac...I made an adaptor that plugged into my electric dryer 220vac outlet (30A) and converted to a 20A 220vac outlet so I could plug my slot into it...Worked great after some TLC...I came with a key so I did not have to pick or drill it out...I do not believe that there is a "standard" key that will open these...I tried to see if I had any photo's of the inside, but I could not find any...Attached is a photo of mine...FYI, I was able to convert mine to USA nickels...

I still haven’t opened it. The end of the plug says 250v 15 amp. Would I be able to use a converter? I’m having a difficult time finding one.

Oh shit!! I never thought about that!

I still need to get a converted so I don’t have to use it in the laundry room.

You could start with the 220 in the laundry room to see if your slot works...If it does, then get yourself a 110 to 220 converter...
Just a thought

Once it’s working - it would probably easier (and cheaper) to just swap the transformer in the power supply.

I ordered a power reducer and it came. Apparently it’s only for the outlet, I can’t actually plug it in. I’m not understanding this. I guess I’ll swap out the power plug to an American one so I can use the reducer.

Before I do this, I’m going to test it in a 220v outlet. I’m assuming I do not need to do anything to it since this is what it is intended for.

That’s correct.
The power reducer will give you 110v output.
You can check it with a multimeter.

I do find it strange that you have a 120v slot with a European 220v power cord on it.
Unless the person before you had tried to make it work and failed.

If you plugged in a 110v power supply to 220v and got nothing out of the slot my prediction is that something got blown long ago.

I was working in Switzerland and plugged in a North American desktop PC and the power supply blew and it sounded like a double barrel shotgun going off. Scared the living daylights out of me. Entire office came running. Very embarrassing. Unlike the laptop power supplies which were auto-switching this had a physical switch on it that had to be moved to 220v settings.

Nothing happened to the PC electronics but the power supply was toast and had to be replaced.

If the slot is indeed 220v and you plugged it into a 110 outlet you won’t have the same experience but you may overdraw the adapter and it could burn out.

I honestly do not know of this is 110 or 220. I e looked and cannot for the life of me figure it out.

I just bought this step-up. Hopefully it is sufficient. I uploaded the manual into ChatGPT and it recommended that one, I guess we will see.

What power plug is on your slot ?  This would give you a good indication of what power its expecting.....
