Here are RAM chips on your other boards, Close ups would be appreciated.

The SONY chip appears to be the same CXK58257M-12L on my board but a AP-10L v M-12L.  I can't find specs that explain the difference. I suspect the 10, 12, and 15 refer to 100, 120, and 150 ns.  IGT spec is 150ns.

Also, found a Samsung KM63264AL-10 on an eBay IGTPE+ board.  It's an 8k x 8 CMOS

The brown board is a standard (non super board) and appears to be the same as yours.

The green is a superboard.

It appears that there is no standard as long it's at least 8k x 8 and 150ns.  I don't know how its specs change the requirements of the EEPROM on the motherboard.  Will update when my 32kx8 chip arrives.

Here's a summary of chips in this thread:

image 0640          CXK58257P-10L Sony SRAM Chip Async Single 5V 256K-bit 32K x 8 100ns 28-Pin PDIP

Update: The CXK58257M-10L Sony CMOS arrived today.  Same behavior - slightly different screen.  Waiting for the X24C04 EEPROM to arrive.

Installed the EEPROM on the motherboard today and tried to Clear.  After pressing the reset button, it returns a BAD EEPROM message.  The game chip gives varying messages and occasionally I can get the jackpot key to show some machine history - once showing thousands of hands, the next time zeros.  With the game chip installed, the reset button does nothing.

Screen messages vary and often overwrite others - BAD DENOMINATION, CALL ATTENDANT AND WRONG GAME are the most frequent.  Lower on the screen I get Power Reset, coin-in jam, and credits 0. Two of the front panel Hold buttons light for a short period.

Running out of ideas without working parts to try.

Hi Cliff
Here is a sampling in the attached image, these are in my random tub….there are tons of options. I think you have double double poker but with that home made label I don’t really know.
I think you will need to download the PE chip bible and verify the game chip you select is compatible with your M chips. Or maybe someone can tell you.

I will be out of town all day Friday but I can mail on Saturday. Whichever you choose.

Chris

Actually, now that I look at them I think the BP chips are Bally. The IGT PE chips are XP. But you get the Point.

This thread is getting very long.  Let me summarize where I am.
1.  After a PRESS SELF TEST SWITCH, with a clear chip, I get EEPROM DATA FAILURE.  I have replaced the EEPROM on the motherboard and the RAM chip on the MPU.
2.  When I try a SET CHIP, I get RETRY DENOMINATION SET PROCESS.  I am unable to get to a denomination page.
3.  When I use the game chip, I get WRONG GAME    IRRECOVERABLE RAM ERROR     POWER RESET.

The Jackpot reset key allows me to toggle through some accounting screens, but I can't get to any configuration or chip ID screens.  My game chips do not have igt chip numbers.

Agree. However, I still feel the Wrong Game message is absolute.
Have you confirmed the data on the game prom?

How do I confirm the data on the game prom?  Can’t find any access to chip ids.

You would need a Eprom reader/writer.

Typically the chip number and short description is found in the first few bytes of the chip binary.
If you had a blank chip this would be evident.
If you had a chip that didn't match its exterior label this would be evident.
If you had a bad chip it likely would not read.

If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

I wonder if I sent a PE game chip if it would at least stop throwing that message?

I would think he would be best off to get a full set (game, program) including the Cap Rom and the MxO set perhaps from Brian T
Ideally testing with a known good MPU and chipset would also help.

Or as mentioned, K-Lar has a test station. Alan can put known woking ICs into the board and verify it works. Then install game proms correct for the glass.

As recommended, I sent my boards to Alan at KLAR (badbaud). He found the MPU unworkable and provided a rehabbed board with five poker games. For the motherboard/backplane, he added a socket for the EEPROM and fixed a bad trace. Unfortunately when I got it back in place, I continued to have EEPROM issues. A “clear” chip gave me a “WRITE EEPROM ACK FAILURE”.

Alan had tested the MPU on his test bench but said there in no way to test the motherboard. I checked all the EEPROM and BGND paths and resoldered a few suspicious joints. Also installed a new EEPROM chip. After a successful “clear”, the machine started properly.

I’m not sure which efforts fixed my problems, and I still get an occasional BAD GAME EPROM on start up. I assume it’s a motherboard issue and will be looking for a replacement.

Thanks for all the advice to save this machine from the junk pile. Now off to replace some buttons and bulbs.

Could it be a bad socket hole contact not allowing chip data to be read correctly?
Spray contact deoxidization cleaner into sockets, let dry then try again.

Very possible.  Alan's EEPROM chip wouldn't clear.  I took the old one that was soldered in previously; cleaned it the best is could and carefully put the weak legs in a spare socket.  Board is double socketed currently.  Will order some EEPROMS and remove the second socket soon.  Just excited to have it working at this point.  Any recommendations for replacement buttons?  I found three that are temperamental.
