Alstate space jet bell reel questions.
« on: February 17, 2026, 06:32:00 pm »
The kicker is not retracting fast enough to spin the reels. I've been shooting oil in there too attempt to loosen it up.  I've never disected one of these mechanical setups so I have no idea if I can take it apart and clean all the crud out (then try to get it back together). I'll attach a couple of pics,  but it's similar to a Mills.

Thephoneman,

I have never been in an Allstate machine.  However, I am fairly familiar with mechanical machines.  If you have a needle spout bottle you can put a few drops of rubbing alcohol on the spots shown with the red arrows and manually move the kicker.  It will start to loosen up the dried grease.  This is not a solution, but it may help.  It's best to disassemble, clean and regrease.

Also, your payout discs are not lined up (yellow arrows).  So, one reel will not spin as fast as the others.  Other things to look at are a worn kicker plate (it will have grooves worn into it) and the reels that spin on an axle.  Those can have some hardened grease as well.

You can check the reels by cycling the machine and stopping the fan.  They should spin freely.

The part where the arrows are moves freely, it's on the back cam where it seems like it's sticking. I've been putting oil in there and cycling it and I haven't gotten very far on the sticking.  It looks like there are 2 brackets that hold that cam on. I'm sure it's a take a few components off to get it out completely and looks like theres a pin that holds in it.  I've been trying to find a video of a disassembly so i know what I'm getting into.

So here's how tonight went.  I was able to take the bottom cam off the back and do my best to clean it.  The reel 1 brake arm was able to be removed for cleaning but the other 2 i could not remove due to there being a pin or something holding the clock pusher and the  upper bracket for the upper cam in place.  #2 and 3 were very sticky and was able to get them fed up with some cleaner, oil, and a little persuasion (light tapping with hammer). All 3 spun freely. Have it back together and it's still doing what it was (the arm that actuates the kicker doesnt snap back fast, this the v reels can't get momentum).  Gotta stop for tonight,  but at least I got it back together lol.

I was able to get both timing arms freed up but I'm still having the issue of the kicker not fully engaging in the pay wheel grooves. I'm sure it's just an adjustment or something small.
