WMS BB1 Reel "Em In Dual Screen
« on: June 11, 2026, 07:36:13 pm »
Hello, I just picked up a WMS BB1 dual screen game that had dead batteries.   I have replaced the batteries and run a RAM clear and tried to set the machine up.  I have no printer, no coins, no hopper, and no bill validator but I have a tito to allow credits by pressing the service button.   I have tried to follow some online videos for the settings and I think I am close.

But the top screen still shows a battery failed error.  Is there an additional battery or batteries apart from the 2 in the brain box?

Secondly,  the lower screen shows a top box lost communication error.   I am not sure how to get at the back of the top box to check connections.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks in advance.

I got the upper glass removed and accessed the upper screen.   There is a dead BR2330 battery on the board for the upper screen.  I will get a replacement and hopefully be up and running

I have changed the battery in the top box on the back of the monitor.   Now I am still getting the "top box lost communication " error.   The top screen is now black.  I am wondering if I messed up a connection somehow but am having trouble tracing the wiring from the top monitor to the lower cabinet because there is so much of it.  Does anyone know what conntor that comes off of in the lower cabinet?

First, I would try a RAM clear to see if that changes anything.

Are you getting any signal from the monitor or are you getting "no signal", and is there a CF Card in the Top Box board?

I have tried a RAM clear in the brain box and it didn't help.  I know the upper monitor is working because I get a "no signal " error displayed on the monitor shortly after power on.  I didn't get this before changing the battery in the top monitor.  It had some text and then said "BATTERY FAILED" before I changed the battery.  I am wondering if I disturbed some connections somehow when I was getting at the back of the upper monitor to change the battery.

Yes, there is a CF card in the top monitor.  Do I need to run a ram clear somehow in that slot?

No, Clear Cards always go in the OS slot on your MAIN CPU and never TSE Board.

So while the monitor IS getting power it doesn't seem to be getting video signal from the TSE board itself. Wiggle the cable gently to see if a signal ever comes up or try a different VGA cable. VGA cable goes from TSE board to Monitor.

For your title, what you should be seeing upon power up is a loading screen showing the fish along with a red loading bar with version information.

I will have to try to find another VGA Cable.  I tried wiggling the current one and nothing improved.   It's still strange that the display displayed text before I replaced the battery. I have removed the battery as a test and it doesn't do that anymore.

One more solution for now is get a new battery for your TSE board, and unhook the board from your monitor but leave all the cables plugged in, THEN power on so you can see the board itself, upon power up it should flash an orange LED then boot up.

Is there a reason I should get an additional new battery?  I have ordered some but it will take a couple of days to get them. I can see an orange light flashing with the current battery.   It measures right around 3v.

With getting a new battery, I mean that if you haven’t already ordered one, which you have so that is good.

But to me it seems like your VGA cable is failing or is coming loose. So try a different VGA cable for now.

I have replaced the VGA cable and now the display comes on, but it seems like it is rebooting.  See the linked video showing the behavior.

Your Top Box CF seems good but not the board itself, either the board is starting to fail or it is a power supply issue.

I would wait til you get your new battery, then ram clear after battery change and see what happens.

The new batteries arrived and I installed a fresh one.   The top screen still seemed to be rebooting over and over so I did a RAM clear and setup.  It did not resolve the issue.   I am thinking the next step may be a new tse tse fly board.  Any other thoughts or ideas?  Thanks for the continued support.

Yeah to me it is either a TSE FLY board issue or a power supply issue. But very likely TSE board is dying out

My replacement TSE FLY board arrived and has solved the problem on the top monitor.   Now I am getting an open door V error which seems to be the bill validator.   I don't have a bill validator.   I tried another ram clear and setup but the error is still there.  I am wondering if there is something in my setup that could be wrong.

I found a switch that was taped closed and replaced it and found some wires with bare terminals hanging from the back of where the cash box would go.  I taped all the loose terminals.   Between this and the switch replacement I got rid of the open doorV error.   Now the game boots but does not add credits when I press the change button.   I am wondering if it is something with the settings or if there is another way to add credits.   It has a tito but I am not sure what brand or how to tell if it is working properly.

Does your Tito model have free play?

Second, did you set validation to Standard or System?

I am not sure what model the tito is so I don’t know if it has free play.   But I assume it does because there is no bill validator in the machine and that's how it came to me.

I think I set it to Standard this time.

You need to set it to system

Thank you for the continued support.   I did another RAM clear and setup.   This time I set it to system and it still doesn't add credits.   I need to take a closer look at the settings.   I am watching a few videos to follow the setup but none of them are my exact configuration with no bill validator,  no printer,  and tito.  I probably still have something wrong.
